ELECTRICAL WORK YOU CAN AND CAN'T DO AROUND YOUR HOUSE

ELECTRICAL WORK YOU CAN AND CAN'T DO AROUND YOUR HOUSE

A lot of people out there tend to think that they can do the jobs themselves and, in some cases, yes, they can do them, but other times it's better to call in a professional.

Electricians train for years to complete the jobs they do and with that training comes a lot of safety regulations they must follow which some people may not be aware of.

Here are some of the jobs you can do yourself

Changing a light bulb

Changing a burnt out light bulb should be a skill you learn when you start living on your own as you will be doing it around once a month, so calling in a professional to do something as menial as this would be both a waste of money and time on both your parts.

Turning on a switch in your fuse box

Sometimes a fuse blows, and you must push the switch back up into the on position, and this is an easy task you should be familiar with just like changing a light bulb.

Now onto the tasks and jobs, you should leave for the professionals:

Wiring a power point

Whenever you're working with wires and a flowing electrical current you should always rely on an electrician for it, even if you think it’s as simple as connecting two wires you should never attempt this yourself.

Damaged power pole

You may think that fixing a wooden pole that has been damaged yourself is a cheap and easy way to avoid an accident but under no circumstances should you attempt to fix it yourself. If there is a damaged power pole near your home, you should call a level 2 electrician because they have training and expertise when it comes to fixing and maintaining them.

High voltage jointing

Whenever there is a chance of coming into contact with a high voltage current you should always call in an electrician, and if you're worried about how big the job is maybe consider calling in a level 2 electrician since they're used to handling high voltage tasks and assignments.

Damaged powerlines

Powerlines can become damaged in many ways from storms and weather to animals, and when they do become damaged, they can become deadly.

There are some cases and videos of damaged powerlines causing fires and even mass wide blackouts so getting on top of them before this happens is critical, so if you see any type of damaged powerline you should immediately call a level 2 electrician to come and fix the problem.
